There, you'll receive a detailed overview of your itinerary.
In the afternoon, explore the enchanting Rinpung Dzong, also called Paro Dzong, a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture. This impressive fortress houses temples, courtyards, and administrative offices, serving as a hub for religious, social, and governmental activities. Next, visit the revered Kichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest and holiest temples, renowned for its ancient statue of Jowo Sakyamuni. Steeped in legend and spiritual significance, the temple is said to hold hidden treasures discovered by Guru Rinpoche himself.
Today, you'll embark on a journey to Haa Valley, known as the Valley of the Guardian Spirit. Along the way, you'll traverse Chele La Pass, Bhutan's highest drivable pass at 3,988 meters (13,083 feet) nestled between Paro and Haa valleys. On clear days, you'll be treated to breathtaking vistas of snow-capped peaks like Mount Jumolhari and Jichu Drake. The pass, adorned with vibrant Buddhist prayer flags, offers unparalleled views of lush green valleys below.
Descending from the pass, you'll drive through dense forests of fir, pine, and oak trees. In the afternoon, you'll have the opportunity to explore local villages, meet with families, and engage with the warm-hearted locals. Staying in remote Haa Valley provides a firsthand glimpse into rural Bhutanese life and the chance to experience genuine local hospitality.
You'll embark on a picturesque drive through charming villages and pine-filled jungles en route to Bhutan's capital, Thimphu. Along the way, you can make optional stops to snap photos of the breathtaking scenery. Your journey includes a visit to Dobji Dzong, Bhutan's first model fortress built in 1531 by Ngawang Chogyal.
Continuing past Dobji Dzong, you'll arrive at Chhuzom, where local farmers gather to sell fresh fruits and vegetables. In the evening, Thimphu City awaits, bustling with cozy restaurants, shopping hubs, internet cafes, and more, perfect for a leisurely stroll and exploration.
Today, you're in for a delightful journey to Punakha, with a scenic drive that includes a stop at Dorchula Pass. Perched at 3,100 meters above sea level, this pass treats you to breathtaking vistas of snow-capped peaks. On clear days, marvel at majestic mountains towering over 7,000 meters, like Jejegangphugang, Kangphugang, and Masaganang. Dorchula Pass is renowned for its charm, adorned with 108 small chortens honoring Bhutanese soldiers who bravely fought in the 2003 war against Indian insurgents.
Next, your adventure leads to Chimi Lhakhang, affectionately known as the Temple of Fertility. A brief stroll from Metshina Village brings you to this sacred site dedicated to saint Drupak Kunley, the 'Divine Madman,' who imparted Buddhist teachings through song, humor, and unconventional methods. Phallic symbols, believed to ward off negativity, are a common sight here. Your journey continues with a visit to Punakha Dzong, a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture nestled at the junction of the Mo Chu and Po Chu rivers. As Bhutan's second oldest and second-largest dzong, it stands as a testament to the country's rich cultural heritage.
Today, you'll embark on an adventure through Punakha's charming villages. Your journey begins with a scenic drive up winding roads to Talo and Nobgang villages, known as the ancestral homes of the Queen's mothers. Talo village is renowned for its spotless surroundings and traditional Bhutanese houses nestled on the slopes. As you explore, you'll encounter a tapestry of tropical fruit trees and lush farmlands in Nobgang village, aptly named "gem hill." This visit offers a glimpse into the daily lives of locals, providing opportunities for cultural exchanges.
Continuing your exploration, you'll head to Wangdue and discover Rinchengang village. This picturesque village is famous for its ancient stone houses perched atop a small hill overlooking Wangdi Phodrang Dzong. Legend has it that skilled artisans from Nepal and Bhutan settled here after constructing the dzong, making Rinchengang one of Bhutan's oldest settlements. Today, your journey takes you from Wangdue back to Paro, passing through Dorchula Pass along the way. During spring, vibrant flowers and rhododendrons adorn the pass, while in winter, it transforms into a snowy wonderland.
After crossing the pass, you'll make a pit stop in Thimphu for lunch before continuing your drive to Paro. Along the route, you'll likely witness Bhutanese locals engaging in archery, known locally as Dha. After breakfast, we will embark on a hike to Tiger's Nest, also known as Paro Taktsang. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche, who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan, flew to this location on the back of a tigress.
