Detail Itinerary
Fly into the captivating Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. Upon arriving at Paro International Airport, your private guide will welcome you with a traditional white scarf and take you to Thimphu. On the way, visit the Tachog Temple across the Paro River. In Thimphu, see the magnificent Buddha Dordenma statue at Kuenselphodrang and explore the historic Tashichho Dzong.
After a hearty breakfast, you'll start your journey to the picturesque Punakha Valley, Bhutan's ancient capital until 1955. First, you'll ascend to Dochu La Pass at 3,100 meters, decorated with 108 Chortens and colorful prayer flags. On clear days, you can see some of Bhutan's highest peaks from here.
Next, you'll stroll through the traditional village of Sopsokha to visit the temple of the Divine Mad Monk, Chimi Lhakhang. A short drive through the valley floor will then bring you to the magnificent Punakha Dzong, the Palace of Great Bliss, situated between the Pho Chu (Male River) and Mo Chu (Female River). Later, you'll drive to your luxurious farm stay that offers modern comforts with stunning views of Punakha Dzong in a tranquil setting, perfect for a peaceful retreat.
Enjoy a wholesome breakfast. Then, take a scenic drive along the Mo Chu (Female River) to Nyizergang in the North. Begin your ascent from the footbridge to reach the stunning Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a marvel crafted by the Queen Mother. Surrounding you are breathtaking views of glacial rivers, lush valleys, and towering mountains, perfect for memorable photos. Afterwards, journey to the lively Sangchen Dorji Lhuendrup Nunnery, following a delightful picnic lunch by the Mo Chu River at Zomlinghtang.
Drive back along the Wang and Paro River and, before heading to your hotel, explore the National Museum nestled in a fort shaped like a conch. Here, uncover artifacts dating back to 4000 BCE. If you're up for more adventure, embark on a leisurely hike to the ancient Zuri Dzong. The trail offers stunning views of the lush Paro valley, with sights including Paro Dzong and Ta Dzong. It's a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts.
Later, explore the historic ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in 1649, this fortress commemorates Bhutan's triumph over Tibetan invaders and its safeguarding of independence. In the evening, you're free to relax or wander through Paro town, known for its charming Bhutanese architecture lining the streets.
After breakfast, we will embark on a hike to Tiger's Nest, also known as Paro Taktsang. This iconic monastery, perched on a cliffside 3,000 feet above the Paro Valley in Bhutan, is a sacred site and a marvel of architecture. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche, who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan, flew to this location on the back of a tigress. The hike offers stunning views and a glimpse into Bhutanese spirituality, making it a memorable part of the journey.
